Hi, my name is Anja.

I have to admit that I did not choose Chad as a country for a short term. AnjaIt was God who chose this place for me, simply because he did not leave me another possibility. It was either going there or staying home for me. So I went. I did not know what to expect from a country about which I knew hardly anything, and I decided not to expect very much, so that a possible disappointment would not be too big.
Well, so far there hasn’t been a disappointment, just excitement and a lot of new experiences. Life in Chad is different. It teaches you that running water and electricity do not belong to the most important things in life. It teaches you that people matter more than things. It teaches you gratefulness for what you have because even though it might not seem much to you, it is still much more than the majority of the Chadians has.
I am having a very good time here, teaching English at the Centre de Connaissance is much more fun than I thought that it would be, and I have met some very precious people here (and an extraordinary cat).
It has also been a special time for me and my relationship with God. I’m learning new things about him, and I am learning to fully rely on him concerning my safety. Because life in Chad is not only “La vie en rose”. It can be dangerous (e.g. the traffic) and difficult, and it can make you wish to be back home because it is so different.
Still, I will never regret that I came here, and since I am only here for three months, I wish I could stay longer. Well, maybe next time… Who knows?
